the last frail tenant dreaming

a siren horn rings down the sunless archway
in chilly twilight odours of decay
seasons beneath seasons cold wind streaming
the last shadowy tenant shut away

beneath the wrecked bare ceiling cast in gloomlight
frail and tender closed eye sinkdroop head
no child no voice no message old and wand’ring
in shadowy dim dreaming spiral webs

dreaming of cold sea maids dazzling coral
graceful silken wings on pearl shell sea
year after year he shaped his silent heaven
through caves of thought unsealed unshadowed free

shipwrecked soul left sunless and unresting
that door is shut cold western sky unfolds
with soft and tender tears to mourn in sorrow
this outgrown life his cell his lastfound home
